Habitat

Usually gregarious to slightly clustered in and outside forests, always associated with wood debris such as wood chips or shreds of bark. Spring-fall.
Macroscopic features
     Pileus 15-30 (60) mm across, hemispherical when young, later campanulate to convex, expanded when old, surface hygrophanous, yellow-ocher to ocher-brown when moist, light beige to cream-colored when dry, smooth when young, dull to satiny, covered primarily when young with concentrically to irregularly distributed, well-clevaloped, white fibrillose scales, glabrescent when old, margin faintly striate when moist, hung with white veil remnants for a long time, esp. strongly appendiculate when young. Flesh whitish to watery brown, thin, odor sweetly aromatic (like Hebeloma sacchariolens Quél,), taste mild, not distinctive, Lameliae cream-colored when young, later gray-brown, dark lilac-brown when old, broad, L_» 30-36, | « 1-5 (7), ascending and broadly adnate, edges whitish-ciliate, Stipe 30-50 x 2.5-3.5 mm, cylindrical, at times somewhat enlarged toward the base, rigid, hollow, surface strongly white-fibrillose-scaly on a white background, scales erect, with a distinct annular zone on the upper third, esp. when young, white-powdered on a white background above the annular zone, glabrescewnhetn old.
Microscopic features
A: Spores elliptical, smooth, red-brown, with a germ pore, 6.8-8.8 x 3.8-4.7 um; Q: 1.7-2.0; Vm: 75; spp. purple-black.
B: Basidia clavate, 15-25 x 7~9 jm, with 4 steriqgmata and some with a ba- Sal clamp.
C: (C1) Chellocystidia lageniform to utriform, subcapitate, 30-45 x 7-17 Lm, with abundant interspersed pyriform cells; (C2) pleurocystidia similar but also fusiform to subulate, 35-50 x 10-16 jim.
D: Pp composed of +/- isodiametric to polymorphic cells 20-40 x 15-35 jum, with velar hyphae above them in places, all colorless, septa without clamps,
E: Caulocystidia on the stipe apex.
