     Apothecia 18-100 (-150) mm diam., 5-15 mm high, sessile or sometimes substipitate, subglobose in the early stages, becoming deeply cupulate, finally flared to completely expanded, so practically plane, with a wavy, decidedly crenate, at first inflexed, finally even reflexed margin. Disc pale yellowishochreous, uneven, vesiculose owing to the loose hymenium. Outer surface the same colour or hardly darker, covered with coarse brownish granulations (denser towards the margin of receptacle), lying on a broad whitish felt. Context 2-3 mm thick, layered under a lens, weeping, after cutting, a colourless liquid. Smell faint, caustic.  
     Subhymenium 50-60 um thick, of a textura angularis, made up of polygonal cells, 13-24 x 7-11 pm. Medullary excipulum layered, 14-22 mm thick: 1) upper layer of a textura globulosa, with roundish, pyriform, broadly ellipsoidal cells, up to 160 pm diam., interspaced with some cylindric hyphae, perpendicular to the hymenial surface; 2) middle layer of a textura intricata, formed of cylindric, septate, interwoven hyphae, 13-27 yum diam., which, however, tend to be parallel to the hymenial surface; 3) a lower layer very similar to the upper one. Ectal excipulum 300-400 um thick, of a textura globulosaangularis, made up of thick-walled cells, up to 120 um diam. Paraphyses hardly exceeding the asci, 3.5-4 um diam., cylindric, septate, usually simple, straight or somewhat curved at the claviform (up to6.5 um diam.) apex, containing numerous vacuoles, but lacking carotenoid pigments. Asci amyloid, cylindric, 290-315 x 18-24 um, 8-spored, with a short pleurorynchous stalk and a slightly flattened apex. Spores one-celled, uniseriate, 20-21.6 x 11.2-12.6 um, ellipsoidal (Q = 1.60-1.92; Q = 1.75), smooth hyaline, quite thick-walled, rounded, or occasionally slightly pointed at the ends, lacking drops, but sometimes containing de Bary bubbles.
